Service Technician

Service Technicians Job Descriptions

Reports to: Service Manager

Primary purpose of the job: Provide highest level of service to customers in the field for pool/spa openings, delivery and installation of spas and related equipment, closings, heater calls, plumbing calls and/or pool maintenance.

Job duties:

1. Meet the service/maintenance needs of customers’ pools and spas

  1. Maintain neat and organized work areas at the customer’s home
  2. Leave a service note with the customer on each visit
  3. Maintain neat and clean service vehicles
  4. Utilize service equipment/tools (trucks, phones, pumps, etc.) properly
  5. Utilize the water analysis lab and related computer software to assure the proper application of pool and spa chemicals for the customer
  6. Provide the customer with accurate information on the use and application of all products sold by the company
  7. Conduct timely, effective repairs in response to customer needs and inquiries
  8. Utilize good judgment in satisfying customer service request or complaints
  9. Complete service orders on the schedule in an accurate and efficient manner

2. Process customer service orders

  1. Maintain service work orders in a professional way to protect the invested time and materials
  2. Enter complete technician notes, parts and labor used into the computer system once work is completed, adding parts that need to be ordered when required
  3. Following existing systems to complete work and recommending modifications to improve accuracy, efficiency and customer satisfaction whenever possible
  4. Insure parts inventory accuracy with inventory counts
  5. Ensure proper tools and materials (trucks, pumps, vacs, hand tools, etc.) are clean and in good working order
  6. Communicate timely to owners/managers any area of need, dispute or idea for improving the operation of the service department

Job Requirements:

Candidate must have one or more of the following:

  • 3+ years as a service technician
  • 2+ years as a technician assistant
  • 2 year associates degree that is applicable to technical service role
  • Journeyman status as an electrician, plumber or HVAC technician

Additional requirements include:

  • Candidates must have neat, clean appearance
  • Lifting of products up to 50 pounds
  • Intermediate computer skills in a Windows environment
  • Attend required seminars, training, vendor schools and/or trade shows to maintain

industry and product knowledge, as directed by the store owners

  • Good verbal communication skills and likes helping others
  • Strong customer orientation
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to learn
  • Valid commercial driver’s license required
  • Fork lift driver certification required

Note: Depending on area of the country, service technicians may work full time 3‐6 months at

a time, then 1‐2 days per week for the remainder of the year.

The Senior Service Technician job duties are the same as above, but includes a job requirement

of 10 years or more of experience as a service technician, or a two year related associates

degree and 5+ years as a service technician.
